Directions to the main NIH campus and off-campus facilities

NIH Main Campus (9000 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, Maryland 20892)

From I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Northern Virginia or Maryland

  1. Take I-495 (Capital Beltway) westbound (Outer Loop) or northbound (Inner Loop).
  2. Take Exit 36 to Old Georgetown Road, south.
  3. Turn left onto West Cedar Lane.
  4. Yield right onto Rockville Pike.
  5. Follow signs to the Main Visitor’s entrance on the right.

From Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI)

  1. Take the Baltimore-Washington Parkway south toward Washington, DC.
  2. At I-495 (Capital Beltway), head west toward Silver Spring/Bethesda.
  3. From I-495 (Capital Beltway), take Exit 34 onto Route 355 (Wisconsin Avenue/Rockville Pike) and head south toward Washington/Bethesda.
  4. Pass South Drive and turn right at NIH Gateway Drive.

From Dulles International Airport

  1. Head east on the Dulles Airport Access Road for approximately 13 miles.
  2. Exit onto I-495 (Capital Beltway), heading north to Bethesda/Baltimore.
  3. From I-495 (Capital Beltway), take Exit 34 onto Route 355 (Wisconsin Avenue/Rockville Pike) and head south toward Washington/Bethesda.
  4. Pass South Drive and turn right at NIH Gateway Drive.

From Ronald Reagan National Airport

  1. Head north on the George Washington Parkway for approximately 12 miles.
  2. Exit onto I-495 (Capital Beltway), heading north toward Maryland.
  3. From I-495 (Capital Beltway), go approximately 7 miles and take Exit 34 onto Route 355 (Wisconsin Avenue/Rockville Pike) and head south toward Washington/Bethesda.
  4. Pass South Drive and turn right at NIH Gateway Drive.

Democracy One & Two (6701 & 6707 Democracy Boulevard, Bethesda, Maryland 20817)

From I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Northern Virginia

  1. Take I-495 (Capital Beltway) northbound (Inner Loop).
  2. Stay to the left and enter I-270 North at the I-270 spur.
  3. Take Exit 1 to Democracy Boulevard.
  4. Yield right, heading east on Democracy Boulevard.
  5. Turn left onto Fernwood Drive. Building is on the left.

From I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Maryland

  1. Take I-495 (Capital Beltway) westbound (Outer Loop).
  2. Stay to the right to enter I-270 North at the I-270 spur.
  3. Take Exit 1A and turn left at the top of the ramp onto Old Georgetown Road.
  4. Turn right onto Democracy Boulevard.
  5. Turn right onto Fernwood Drive. Building is on your left.

Executive Plaza North & South (6120 & 6130 Executive Boulevard, Rockville, Maryland 20852)

From I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Northern Virginia

  1. Take I-495 (Capital Beltway) northbound (Inner Loop).
  2. Stay to the left and enter I-270 North at the I-270 spur.
  3. Enter the I-270 local lanes.
  4. Take Exit 4A and yield right onto Montrose Road eastbound.
  5. Yield to the right onto Montrose Parkway.
  6. At the first light, yield right onto Executive Boulevard.
  7. At the first light, turn into the Executive Plaza complex.

From I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Maryland

  1. Take I-495 (Capital Beltway) westbound (Outer Loop).
  2. Stay to the right to enter I-270 North at the I-270 spur.
  3. Enter the I-270 local lanes.
  4. Take Exit 4A and yield right onto Montrose Road Eastbound.
  5. Yield to the right onto Montrose Parkway.
  6. At the first light, yield right onto Executive Boulevard.
  7. At the first light, turn into the Executive Plaza complex.

Twinbrook I, II and III

From I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Northern Virginia or Maryland

  1. Take I-495 (Capital Beltway) westbound (Outer Loop) or northbound (Inner Loop).
  2. Take Exit 36 to Old Georgetown Road, north.
  3. Follow Old Georgetown Road 2½ miles and turn left onto Route 355 (Rockville Pike).

    Twinbrook I
    (5640 Fisher Lane, Rockville, MD 20852):

    1. Travel on Rockville Pike for ¾ mile and yield to the right onto Twinbrook Parkway.
    2. Follow Twinbrook Parkway ½ mile and turn left onto Fishers Lane. Building is on your right.

    Twinbrook II
    (12441 Parklawn Drive, Rockville, MD 20852):

    1. From Rockville Pike, exit towards Montrose Parkway.
    2. Turn right onto Montrose Parkway, eastbound.
    3. Travel on Montrose Parkway for ½ mile.
    4. Turn right onto Parklawn Drive.
    5. Follow Parklawn Drive for about 1 mile. Building is on your right.

    Twinbrook III
    (12735 Twinbrook Parkway, Rockville, MD 20852):

    1. Travel on Rockville Pike for ¾ mile and yield to the right onto Twinbrook Parkway.
    2. Follow Twinbrook Parkway ¾ mile. Building is on your right.

Fernwood (6555 Rock Spring Drive, Bethesda, Maryland 20817)

From I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Northern Virginia

  1. Take I-495 (Capital Beltway) northbound (Inner Loop).
  2. Stay to the left and enter I-270 North at the I-270 spur.
  3. Take Exit 1 to Democracy Boulevard.
  4. Yield right, heading east on Democracy Boulevard.
  5. Turn left onto Rockledge Drive.
  6. Turn left onto Rock Spring Drive.
  7. Building is on your left.

  4. At the first light, yield to the right to stay on Rockledge Drive.

  4. Merge onto I-270 N.
  5. Take exit 6B for Maryland 28/W Montgomery Ave toward Poolesville/Darnestown.
  6. Follow MD-28 E to Medical Center Dr.
  7. Turn left onto Medical Center Dr. Building is on your right.

  1. Take I-495 (Capital Beltway) westbound (Outer Loop).
  2. Stay to the right to enter I-270 North at the I-270 spur.
